TPO Roofing Installation in Kingston, Ontario

Location: Kingston

Category: Commercial Roofing

Date: June 2025

At Stonemills Roofing, we recently completed a TPO roofing installation on a low-slope commercial building in Kingston, Ontario. TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin) is a single-ply roofing membrane known for its energy efficiency, flexibility, and clean appearance—an excellent choice for flat and low-slope roofs.

This project involved several key steps to ensure a durable and watertight roofing system:

  1. Removal of the old roofing system down to the concrete deck.

  2. Priming the concrete deck with asphalt primer.

  3. Installing a torch-applied sanded vapor barrier to prevent moisture infiltration.

  4. Adding insulation layers for improved thermal performance.

  5. Installing the fully adhered TPO membrane system, using a flameless hot-air welder for precise, secure seams.

We also used a propane torch to adhere the vapor barrier to the primed concrete deck, ensuring a strong bond and long-lasting protection.

While TPO roofing systems offer excellent energy savings and easy maintenance, they are generally less impact-resistant than built-up roofing systems. For that reason, we recommend walkway pads on TPO roofs to protect high-traffic areas and extend the life of the membrane.

This project is another example of how Stonemills Roofing combines experience, safety, and quality materials to deliver reliable commercial roofing solutions throughout Kingston and Eastern Ontario.
